KENT -- Pending public comment, the Department of Ecology will declare cleanup complete at the 33-acre site at 22011 84th Ave. S. in Kent.
The site had been used to store and process crushed automobiles and scrap metal for steel products and for processing slag. Stockpiles of soil and debris were contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls and lead.
The public comment period runs until April 15.
The site was sold by the Port of Seattle to Kent Central in 1997. Kent Central planned to develop it into an industrial warehouse facility.
Seattle-based environmental consultants Floyd & Snider and general contractor Poe Construction worked with developers to clean contaminants.
