Mayor launches new crusade for shade

By MARGIE SLOVAN
Journal Staff Reporter

Nobody knows exactly how many trees Seattle has.

“We figure there's somewhere well over 100,000 street trees,” said city arborist Liz Ellis.

Want to help?
The city is seeking developers, builders, real estate agents and environmentalists to join a task force to figure out ways to encourage property owners to preserve trees and plant new ones.

People interested in serving on the mayor's tree task force should contact Tracy Morgenstern at (206) 615-0817.
