Built Green speaker questions value of green building awards

  • One consultant says the gap between design awards and real performance will lead to a negative perception of green building.

    Speakers at the 2007 Built Green Conference last week at the Everett Events Center agreed that there's a pot of gold at the end of the sustainability rainbow, but disagreed on how to get there.

    Keynote speaker Hunter Lovins, president of Eldorado Springs, Colo.-based Natural Capitalism, said many types of businesses are moving toward more sustainable practices, but changing how the construction industry operates remains a big challenge.
