HILLSBORO, Ore. — SolarWorld Group has chosen a site in Hillsboro, Ore., 18 miles west of Portland, for what will be the nation's largest solar cell and wafer manufacturing plant. It will open for production in 2009.
The site now houses a 400,000-square-foot tech complex on 46 acres, including clean rooms, crystal growing areas and office space. It was originally designed by Komatsu Silicon America to manufacture silicon wafers for semiconductors.
