Plant to treat water during dam removal

PORT ANGELES — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a permit that will allow a plant to treat water during the removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams, providing clean water to industry and local residents.

The Elwha Water Treatment Plant will treat about 18 million cubic yards of sediment that is trapped behind the two dams and will be released during the five years of dam removal, according to the EPA.
