Olympia's Capitol Lake could become estuary

  • A feasibility report estimates that converting the lake would cost at least $76 million.

    Captiol Lake, Olympia’s 260-acre reflecting pool for the capitol campus, could become an estuary. The conversion would require signifiant dredging of silt, improvements to the Descutes Parkway and removal of the Fifth Avenue Dam.

    Olympia's Capitol Lake, the pool of water that gracefully reflects the state capitol campus, used to be an outdoor recreation area where neighbors fished, swam and enjoyed the water.
