Cruise ship waste prohibited off coast

SEATTLE — The cruise industry, the Port of Seattle and the state Department of Ecology have agreed to prohibit all cruise ship wastewater discharges in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary.

The marine sanctuary encompasses more than 3,000 square miles off of the Olympic Peninsula, extending 135 miles along the coast from about Cape Flattery to the mouth of the Copalis River.
