More wind power needed in NW, power study says

The Northwest should have enough energy through 2012 but a new assessment says utility companies need to continue investing in renewable resources to temper the effects of spikes in the price of power.

The “Pacific Northwest Resource Adequacy Assessment: 2010 and 2012” looks both three and five years into the future to predict energy supply. This is the first annual energy assessment using new benchmarks for electrical system adequacy and reliability. It was developed by the Northwest Power and Conservation Council in collaboration with the Bonneville Power Administration, the Northwest Energy Coalition, utility associations, state agencies and electric utilities.
