EPA honors Bellingham for green energy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency honored 17 organizations from across the country yesterday, including the city of Bellingham, for taking voluntary measures to address climate change. The Green Power Leadership Awards go to groups that purchase green power or help develop that market.

Bellingham was designated an EPA Green Power Partner. Bellingham purchases renewable energy credits representing 100 percent of the electricity used in city operations. According to the city's Web site, Bellingham is the sixth largest local government purchaser of renewable energy in the nation.
