Yesterday, speakers told the Seattle City Council that considering greenhouse gas emissions as part of the permitting process for new development is a good start in addressing climate change but doesn't go far enough.
The city is considering legislation that would require city departments to evaluate climate impacts as part of the State Environmental Policy Act review. The council's Urban Development and Planning Committee amended the legislation yesterday so it will start on March 31, 2008. This will give the Department of Planning and Development more time to prepare for the changes.
