Sun, wind, waves could power Hawaii

Associated Press Writer

HONOLULU — Hawaii will become an example of how the United States can become energy independent under a unique agreement with the federal government signed Monday.

The deal makes the islands a national model for how power from the sun, wind, waves and earth can be harnessed to light homes and fuel cars, officials said.
