Natural gas in the Rockies: The party is almost over

    New gas pipelines sit in a field near Illiopolis, Ill., for construction of the 1,678-mile Rockies Express pipeline from Meeker, Colo., to Clarington, Ohio. It’s the biggest pipeline built in the continental U.S. in the past quarter-century and will take the Rockies’ landlocked gas supply to the Midwest.

    SALT LAKE CITY — In the Rocky Mountains, the energy crisis has mostly been a crisis for natural gas producers and a boon for consumers.
