Powering buildings: experts say we need a new approach

Cold water pumped from the channel cools offices in the Nykredit Building in Copenhagen. That and natural ventilation dramatically reduces the energy needed for cooling. The structure is made up of two buildings connected by an outer skin that allows light and air to penetrate.

Recently, a panel of experts gathered at the University of Washington to discuss ways Seattle can become a more sustainable city.
