Rushing, a Seattle-based engineering firm, has acquired a sustainability consulting firm called Blackbird Consulting. Katrina Morgan, founder of Blackbird, said the move represents a trend in the industry to integrate sustainability into the entire process of design and construction.
Sustainability is growing so quickly, she said, that more firms are designating someone to be in charge of it. But the amount of work can be overwhelming, and limit how sustainable practices spread in a company.
