Goal for task force: make Seattle buildings more energy efficient

In February, Mayor Greg Nickels said he wanted to make Seattle the nation's capital of green building by making residential and commercial buildings 20 percent more energy efficient. Last week, a group of 50 stakeholders gathered to start figuring out how to reach that goal.

The group is called the Green Building Task Force, with members from the city's real estate, environment and labor communities. It has until January to develop recommendations that the mayor can use at his discretion. The group will look at what policy options — from financing programs to incentives to mandates — can help the city reach its efficiency goals.
