HELENA, Mont. — Talk about asbestos in Montana and people think of Libby, the logging and mining town where asbestos contamination has been blamed for sickening hundreds of people, some fatally.
But state officials Wednesday warned about asbestos from a Bozeman-area mine that operated intermittently from the early 1900s through the 1950s. Asbestos taken from the Karst mine and sold as insulation under the name Karstolite has been found at several places in the Bozeman, Helena and Livingston areas of southwestern Montana, the state Department of Environmental Quality said.
