The Washington State Department of Ecology has proposed that 33 projects get $71.5 million in loans and grants. The projects have the potential to create more than 200 construction-related jobs and an additional 300 retail and service sector jobs.
Projects are based on funding proposed in Gov. Chris Gregoire's 2009-2011 biennial budget. Funds would come through Ecology's integrated grant/loan funding for water quality projects. The amount includes estimates of the congressional federal budget as a portion of grant loans come from federal sources. Gregoire said, “These projects will help protect our environment, and at the same time create hundreds of much-needed new jobs.”
