Wind power action may start moving to public lands in NW

  • In Oregon and Washington, 18 testing applications have been approved for public lands, and 31 test towers are up.

    FIELDS, Ore. — Anchored among clumps of sage and purplish lupine, the guy wires of a solitary weather tower thrum with wind heading in a hurry toward Idaho and Nevada.

    “They say that in the summer it shouts, but in the winter it screams,” Elon Hasson said of the wind on southeast Oregon's Pueblo Mountains.
