Two hydro projects get $5.5M stimulus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding $5.5 million from the federal stimulus to modernize two hydropower projects in Washington state. They are located in Potlatch and Packwood.

The city of Tacoma's Department of Public Utilities will get up to $4.7 million for the project in Potlatch. It will add two new turbines to the existing Cushman No. 2 Dam, creating a 14 percent increase in generation. The project will also incorporate an upstream fish collection pool to help fish reproduction.
