City closer to tracking energy use in buildings

A bill requiring owners of nonresidential and multifamily buildings to measure and disclose energy efficiency performance got one step closer to becoming law yesterday when a Seattle City Council committee passed the bill.
The change would apply to commercial buildings larger than 10,000 square feet and multifamily buildings with five or more units. Commercial buildings would have to do annual benchmarking while multifamily buildings would have to do benchmarking every three years.
