SEATTLE — The board for the King County Flood Control District is expected to vote on a $5.9 million plan next Monday to remove 26 miles of sandbag barriers lining the Green River.
The sandbags were installed in 2009 to provide extra flood protection to the cities of Kent, Auburn and Tukwila because of flooding risks due to damage to the Howard Hanson Dam. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced last fall that they are back to operating the dam at full capacity.
