Army base turns trash into energy

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage now receives 25 percent of its electricity from old trash.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Stephen Hoog, the senior military officer in Alaska, updated lawmakers on the status of the landfill gas power plant during a presentation to the Joint Armed Services Committee meeting last week.
