BEND, Ore. (AP) -- An Idaho company has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a three-year preliminary permit so it can study whether to build a hydroelectric facility at Wickiup Dam on the upper Deschutes River.
Simbiotics of Rigby, Idaho, proposes to build a 400-foot-long penstock, or sluice, to regulate the flow of water. The plant also would include a powerhouse with two turbines capable of generating a total of four megawatts of electricity.
Simbiotics said in its application it has 15 years of experience with hydroelectric projects and operates hydroelectric facilities in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Hawaii.
