Segway now on the scene at Greenlake

SEATTLE -- A new business, Glide at Greenlake, will start renting Segway Human Transporters Saturday.

The store, which is promoting itself as the first its kind in the Northwest, rents the two-wheel electric scooter-like device. Riders accelerate by leaning forward, slow down and stop by leaning back, and navigate by turning the handlebar.

Renters, who must be 18, will receive 20-minute orientations, a safety helmet and walkie-talkies tuned to the store, 321 N.E. 72nd St. Glide also will post "ambassadors" at checkpoints around the lake's approximately three-mile trails that are popular among walkers, runners, skaters and bicyclists.
