Nightly bat exodus just one of Carlsbad Caverns' charms

Through mid-October, thousands of bats swarm out of the cave mouth at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico each evening at sunset to hunt for bugs.

CARLSBAD CAVERNS NATIONAL PARK, N.M. — There's nothing like bats to draw a crowd to the scorching Chihuahuan Desert in the late summer heat.
