Tyler Hicks is getting a lot of support on his year-long NW fishing quest

VANCOUVER (AP) — At midnight, on New Year's Day, Tyler Hicks was drifting lures that glow in the dark for steelhead on the North Fork of the Lewis River. He was a man starting an unusual quest.

Hicks, 32, a Ridgefield resident, is making 2014 his “Big Fishing Year.” He's trying to see how many species of fish and shellfish he can harvest in Washington and Oregon in the 12-month period.
