Draft horses will compete in plowing matches, and there will be demonstrations of pre-tractor antiques as well as modern horse-powered equipment.

OLYMPIA — There will be a Plowing Bee on Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, at Olmstead Place State Park off Interstate 90, with an old-fashioned horse-plowing match and demonstrations of turn-of-the-century farm equipment.

Olmstead Place is a 217-acre day-use park homesteaded by a pioneer family in 1875, midway between Ellensburg and Kittitas.

The event is put on by Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Washington Draft Horse and Mule Association.

Draft horses such as Shires, Belgians, Clydesdales and Percherons will compete in the match. Equipment on display will include pre-tractor antiques as well as modern examples of horse-powered equipment.

The Ellensburg Moose Lodge will serve lunch for about $6, and free rides are available.
