Mining for gold more appealing as price skyrockets

    BAKER CITY — Kenneth Anderson describes himself as older than the hills, but he figures he'll feel sufficiently spry to go looking for gold when the snow melts this spring.

    “I'm hoping I'll be in good enough shape to get out and dig some,” said Anderson, 81, a retired mining engineer and geologist who has lived in Baker City since 1989.
