ANACORTES, Skagit County — Except for the whirling where the wheels roll over the roadway, the new truck at Washington Park doesn't make a sound.
The 3,000-pound Miles Electric Vehicle runs on six 12-volt commercial vehicle batteries. When it runs low on juice, parks employees plug it into a 110-volt outlet, just like those found in a home. The vehicle doesn't have a gas tank, and where an internal combustion engine would normally sit, there's just empty space under the hood.
