Letter to the Editor: Cost often overlooked as a benefit of sustainability

I just read Leon Holloway's article on DKA (“African Americans and sustainability: It's all about ‘making do,'” DJC Building Green Feb. 18) and was very impressed. His article was well written and gave me further insight into an architectural firm I have been very impressed with.

It is nice to see a different viewpoint on why sustainability is so important. Leon has stepped away from the environmental benefits and put the focus back to where it belongs: cost. His reference to refrigerator leftovers brought me back to my childhood and our “must go” night, where everything in the refrigerator “must go.”

Focusing on cost as a benefit is important and this article gives me hope that the industry will focus on this as we look forward during this recession.
