King County

King County Executive Dow Constantine nominated William Hayes as director of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. He has been interim director since February. If confirmed by King County Council, Hayes would oversee jails, community corrections and juvenile detention.

Garvey Schubert Barer

The Seattle law firm Garvey Schubert Barer has added attorneys in New York, Portland and Seattle. In Seattle, Bill Humphries, Courtney Lee Tawresey and Miriam R. Woods are new. Humphries focuses on real estate, business and franchising, and also practiced as a Certified Public Accountant. Tawresey focuses on business, transaction, and federal and international tax law, and was with Grant Thornton in Denver. Woods worked as a state and local tax associate at KPMG. Patrick Conti has joined in Portland as a litigation associate. He was at Arnold & Porter in California. The Portland office also added Steven D. Nofziger, who was with Hershner Hunter in Eugene, and Jennifer F. Gould, who was an associate at Morrison & Foerster's San Francisco office.

State School Directors' Association

Alan Burke is executive director of the Washington State School Directors' Association. He is deputy superintendent at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

State Transportation Commission

Governor Jay Inslee appointed Mary Riveland from Orcas Island and Roy Jennings from Vancouver to the Washington State Transportation Commission and reappointed Joe Tortorelli of Spokane to a second six-year term. Riveland served as director of the State Lottery, Department of General Administration, Department of Licensing and Department of Ecology. Jennings brings more than 30 years of experience in transportation and is a member of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757.

City of Kent

Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke appointed Derek Matheson as chief administrative officer and Aaron BeMiller as finance director. Matheson is city manager of Covington and was interim city manager for Federal Way. BeMiller is budget and finance director/county treasurer for Clatsop County, Oregon, and also was Pierce County budget manager. Former CAO John Hodgson and Finance Director Robert Nachlinger both retired.

NBS promotes Johnson

NBS Financial Services named Austin Johnson associate finance officer. Johnson came to NBS Financial in 2013, after working as an investment analyst intern at Trammell Crow Co.'s Seattle office and a research analyst at Colliers International in Bellevue. NBS Financial Services is the financing arm of NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson, a Portland-based commercial real estate company.

NAIOP event July 16 on TODs

The Washington chapter of NAIOP's July 16 breakfast meeting will focus on transit-oriented development in Seattle. The panel begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Four Seasons. ULI Cascadia Conference in Portland

The Urban Land Institute Northwest Cascadia Regional Conference is in Portland July 18 and 19. The event is organized by ULI's Young Leaders Group and will have panel discussions on financing, affordability, and tours of projects that combine jobs, housing and transit. Glossip is VP at Madison Marquette

Madison Marquette Retail Services promoted Tory Glossip to vice president of property management in Seattle. Glossip will oversee management of 1.5 million square feet of retail in the state, including sites in Seattle, Bellevue, Issaquah, Lynnwood and Lake Forest Park. Glossip has been with Madison Marquette since 2007 and has more than 15 years of experience managing housing, office and retail. Before coming to Madison Marquette, Glossip was a property manager at Alliance Residential. Madison Marquette does development, leasing and property management, with 10 offices across the country including West Coast locations in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Del Mar, California.
