SCJ provides transportation planning and design, civil engineering, environmental and urban planning, landscape architecture and design, and public outreach.

Washington Newspaper Publishers Association said Kris Passey, publisher of the Marysville Globe and Arlington Times in the 1990s, has pancreatic cancer and is not expected to live more than a few months. He is a former WNPA board member and taught at Western Washington University. WNPA is raising funds for an internship to honor him, and the Washington Coalition for Open Government is presenting him with the 2017 James Madison Award for his work on open records and meetings.
