City of Bothell

Jennifer Phillips will become the new city manager for Bothell on Jan. 17. Phillips currently is city manager for St. Helena, California, and has been assistant city manager in Santa Rosa, Santa Monica and Fullerton, California. She is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School. Phillips' starting salary will be $179,000.

Thurston County Chamber

Thurston County Chamber of Commerce announced the Boss of the Year honorees: Kevin Johnston, Capital Mall; Rozanne Garman, RHD Enterprises; and Ed Galligan, The Port of Olympia. Skagit Bank hired a new residential real estate loan officer, Dean Butler, who will work in the Lynden office. He has lived in Whatcom County for over 30 years, and has 20 years of experience in banking and mortgage industries. Skagit Bank has offices in Skagit, Snohomish, Whatcom and King counties.

K&L Gates

The law firm K&L Gates LLP has established a firmwide cross-disciplinary artificial intelligence initiative. It will be headed by Seattle partner David McDonald, who is in the intellectual property practice, and Pittsburgh partner David Lehman. The focus will be on automation, robotics, machine learning, predictive analytics, computer vision and the “Internet of Things” such as autonomous vehicles, robots, unmanned aircraft and intelligent learning systems.

McAvoy Real Estate

A week after reporting that Luma condominiums on First Hill had only two of 168 units remaining, McAvoy and co-listing agent Red Propeller said those last two units have sold. Luma was developed by Lowe Enterprises of Los Angeles, with the Swedish pension fund Alecta as a financial partner. It was completed in September. Weber Thompson was the architect and Lease Crutcher Lewis was the contractor. The entire sales process took 18 months, said McAvoy.

Bosa Development

Bosa has announced a name for the 21-story condominium it plans in Bellevue at the southeast corner of Bellevue Way Northeast and Northeast Second Street: One88. Three levels of underground parking are planned, with the residential tower set on a podium of four or five stories. Bosa says One88 will have about 143 units as well as penthouses, and 21,000 square feet of retail/commercial space. Vancouver-based Amanat Architect is designing it, with interiors by Hirsch Bedner Associates. A start date in 2017 is planned. Bosa bought the 52,000-square-foot site in 2015 for $22.8 million. Meanwhile, Bosa's two condominium towers in Belltown — the 707-unit Insignia — are over 90 percent sold.

Stantec hired Sara Duffy as a lighting designer in Seattle and Elisheva Walters as a civil designer in Spokane. Duffy has four years of experience in architectural lighting design. She is working on Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Bellevue. Walters has worked in San Francisco, Indiana and the African country of Niger, primarily on water and solar projects. At Stantec, she has worked on the ice ribbon in Spokane's Riverfront Park. Stantec provides engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, project management and project economics.

In Seattle, DCI Engineers hired Samiah Rizvi as a project engineer, Lisa Brown as an accounts receivable specialist, and Lutfullha Ahmadi, Aidin Behroozi and Megan McDonald as structural designers. Rizvi was a DCI intern and is working on wood modular buildings and multifamily projects. She holds a master in structural engineering from Seattle University and a bachelor's in civil engineering from the University of Washington. Brown has 30 years of accounting experience in architecture, banking, consulting and nonprofits. Ahmadi has 12 years of experience in the A/E/C industry. He studied seismic design in Iran and Afghanistan, and worked with the Corps of Engineers. He is working on Viejas Casino in Alpine, California. Behroozi was a DCI intern. She is working on 1016 Republican, a mixed-use project in Seattle. She holds a master in structural engineering from the UW and a master of structural engineering from Baha'i Institute for Higher Education in Tehran, Iran. McDonald is working on commercial, office and residential projects. She was a sales intern for engineered wood products, and holds a bachelor's in civil engineering from Washington State University. DCI is a civil and structural engineering firm with offices in Washington, Oregon, California, Texas and Alaska.

Bremerton-based Rice Fergus Miller hired Matt Moyano as a designer, Alex Smith as an intern architect, and Stephanie Isaacs and Alaina Bauer as interior designers. Moyano will focus on community projects. He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Oregon. Smith will work on fire and emergency services projects. He holds a bachelor's and master's in architecture from Kent State University. Isaacs will focus on hospitality, adaptive re-use and community-based projects. She holds a bachelor's in interior design from Washington State University. Bauer will work on health care and senior living projects. She has a bachelor's in interior design from the University of Kentucky. Rice Fergus Miller is a 46-person architecture, interior design and planning firm.

In Kirkland, Freiheit & Ho Architects hired Jannita Bolin, Dillon Gogarty, Cathleen Matuzak and Darin Russell as architectural designers. Bolin holds a masters of architecture from Washington State University. During her graduate year, Bolin worked on an EPA-funded project developing a modular wall system insulated with trash for use in low-income housing. Gogarty holds a masters of architecture from WSU. Matuzak holds a masters of architecture and masters of business administration from Kent State University. Russell has a masters of architecture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They are working on an assisted living facility in Seattle, retail, and medical and dental offices. Freiheit & Ho is a commercial architecture and interior design firm.

Cairncross & Hempelmann has added Eli Yim as a practicing attorney. He was the firm's 2015 Diversity Fellow and Summer Associate, and is currently working with the Business Group. Yim also worked as a program officer and consultant at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and in education and journalism.

Gallina

Sacramento-based Gallina will join the national professional services firm CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, effective Jan. 1. Gallina will assume the CLA name and said its staff of 300 plus will continue to serve clients with offices in California, Nevada, Utah and Washington. The local office is in Bellevue. The two firms will double their expertise in construction and real estate. CLA has more than 4,500 people in about 100 U.S. locations.

Microscan

Microscan, a Renton-based tech firm that focuses on barcodes, machine vision, verification and lighting solutions, named Christoph Wimmer director of customer experience and electronics vertical. He'll be responsible for global sales including customer service, technical support, contracts and order management.
