SPOKANE (AP) -- Two well-known chain restaurants in downtown Spokane are closing, raising some concerns about the economy in the city's core.
Chevy's Fresh Mex and Cucina Cucina are closing, while locally owned Rock City Grill is moving from its downtown location into the Chevy's site in River Park Square.
Cucina Cucina, part of a Northwest chain of Italian restaurants, closed its doors last weekend after nearly a decade inside the Crescent Court building. Chevys plans to be out of the downtown mall in four weeks.
They are not the only downtown dining casualties lately. Quinn's closed in June. Taco Del Mar, which served inexpensive Mexican fare, closed two weeks ago after 12 months in business.
Local real estate analyst Scott Auble said the poor economy and some overbuilding combined to put the bite on Chevys and Cucina Cucina.
