WASHINGTON (AP) -- Alphonso Jackson, the No. 2 official at the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the last three years, will be nominated by President Bush to lead the agency, officials said last week.
If confirmed, Jackson would succeed Mel Martinez, who has resigned to run for a U.S. Senate seat from Florida. Jackson, former chief of the Dallas Housing Authority and former president of a Texas utility company, would have to be confirmed by the Senate.
