Seattle's Claremont Hotel going upscale

  • The Belltown neighborhood hotel has undergone several transformations, but none as dramatic as this, says the owner and developer, Craig Schafer.

    Crews from Howard S. Wright Construction Co. went to work renovating The Claremont Hotel four months ago, and it's scheduled to reopen next month as the Hotel Andra.

    "This is about as fast as I've seen one go," said hotel investor Craig Schafer, who bought the downtown property at 2000 Fourth Ave. in late 2002 for $6.6 million. The previous owner, Don Barton, had started some renovation work, and Schafer said he built on that.
