SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon legislators are considering a bill that would give residents of manufactured home parks — most of whom own their homes but rent the land they sit on — greater protection from landlords looking to sell the property.
The proposal would give residents the ability to form nonprofit co-ops to buy the land they rent from their landlords, which supporters say is a critical step to preserving low-income housing and giving residents the financial leverage to preserve their communities.
