LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) — A judge is requiring the state to come up with a revised burial plan for the 30 sets of Hawaiian remains, or iwi, discovered on the beachfront property where a Kauai landowner is trying to build a home.
Fifth Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe's ruling Monday allows landowner Joseph Brescia to proceed with construction as long as he causes no irreparable damage to the burials and does not block access to them.
