Columbia ports may buy Howard Island

KALAMA, Cowlitz County (AP) — Columbia River ports have made an offer to buy Howard Island to help compensate for ecological damage caused by dredging to deepen the river's ship channel.

The 168-acre island is projected to cost $850,000, Port of Kalama spokeswoman Mindi Linquist said.
