European village pops up in Northgate's parking lot

The design is intended to create a community inside Thornton Place. Entries to the retail shops and movie theaters are off this European-style piazza.

From outside, Thornton Place, the mixed-use complex south of Northgate Mall, just looks like a lot of big buildings. But inside is a quiet, European-inspired neighborhood with public spaces, winding pathways and even a creek.
