Tacoma hospital is closing, may be sold

TACOMA — Pierce County is closing the former Puget Sound Hospital in Tacoma, and county Executive Pat McCarthy is recommending that the county council deem the property as surplus so it can be sold.

The 66,000-square-foot building was last used for medical care last year and now houses county Human Services employees, who will move to leased office space. The county estimates the move will save $4 million over the six-year lease.
