WASHINGTON — A new NAIOP report shows that commercial development and construction spending in the United States totaled $231.7 billion in 2010, or $317 billion less than in 2007.
Of the total, $120.2 billion was spent on “hard costs,” or actual construction; $111.5 billion was spent on “soft costs,” such as design and marketing; and the rest was for building operations.
