H Mart plans to open a new grocery store near Pike Place Market and expects most of the shoppers will come on foot.
Young Jae Kim, H Mart site manager, said the New Jersey-based chain wants to attract people who live in downtown condos and apartments to the 20,000-square-foot store in the below-grade level of the Broadacres Building at Second Avenue and Pine Street, in space Nordstrom Rack once occupied. He said they also hope that tourists and others passing by will become patrons.
