Uwajimaya to turn Publix Hotel into apartments and retail space

Graham Baba, which designed Melrose Market on Capitol Hill, will oversee retail design in the Publix Hotel and a new building next door.

Uwajimaya Inc. said it has hired a team to rehab the Publix Hotel and an adjacent building in the International District to create 108 market-rate apartments and 18,000 square feet of street-level retail.
