City may boost fees for housing

Seattle City Council is planning to raise the fees developers must pay for low-income housing to get extra density in projects downtown.

The increase would match changes the council made to the program earlier this year as part of the South Lake Union rezone. Developers pay a fee for each extra square foot above the base zoning if they don't build low-income housing in their projects.
