The hotel is designed to connect to the neighborhood.

Marriott and DLR Group are bringing to downtown Bellevue a new international hotel concept that has been a hit in Europe: AC Hotels by Marriott.

The Bellevue hotel will be seven stories with 234 rooms at 210 106th Place N.E.

The DJC reported on Friday that a Palm Beach, Florida-based hotel developer called FPG Development Group is planning the project.

The 110,000-square-foot hotel will have a gym, meeting rooms, business center, and a lounge and bar area with indoor and outdoor seating. An underground parking garage will have 106 spaces.

An 8,500-square-foot building on the site will be demolished.

The project received design approval last week. Project documents show FPG wanted to start construction this month, and open the hotel in October 2015. Laurie Tyler at the city of Bellevue said FPG still has to get a building permit before it can start construction.

FPG and DLR representatives did not return phone calls requesting comment.

AC Hotels by Marriott is a partnership formed by Marriott and Spanish-based AC Hotels. There are more than 75 of them in Europe, and now Marriott is bringing the concept to the U.S.

Marriott and DLR Group are working on AC Hotels by Marriott projects in San Jose and Kansas City as well as Bellevue.

The hotels are designed to help connect guests with the neighborhood. For example, the bar and lounge areas feature local and regional spirits. Next to the bar is the AC library, with communal tables and reading areas that are stocked with local city guides.

In the Bellevue hotel, the lounge and library will be at street level so people who aren't staying at the hotel can enjoy them as well.
