Plymouth starts $17M Sylvia's Place housing

Construction has started on a 63-unit apartment complex that will house formerly homeless people.

Plymouth Housing Group calls the project Sylvia's Place and said it is for “graduates” from other Plymouth buildings that offer more intensive services. People who move into Sylvia's Place will free up space for new people to get intensive services from the nonprofit.

The $17 million project is at 2015-2017 Third Ave.

SMR Architects is designing the complex, and Marpac Construction is the general contractor. Other team members include I.L. Gross Structural Engineers, Fazio Associates Landscape Architects, Decker Consulting Engineers, Glumac and Bellwether Housing.

This is Plymouth's 14th project since it was founded in 1980.

The complex is named for Sylvia Odom, a longtime resident of Horizon House retirement community in Seattle and chair of the Plymouth Church committee on housing and homelessness that led to the creation of Plymouth Housing Group.

Plymouth is a nonprofit developer that provides housing and services for more than 1,000 formerly homeless tenants. Plymouth's philosophy is that a stable home helps homeless people get services they need to address health issues and other problems.
