Stonebridge hotel site right across from WSCC

The design review meeting is tonight.

Stonebridge Cos.' 17-story hotel is one of several projects planned in downtown Seattle that could benefit from the Washington State Convention Center expansion.

The Stonebridge plan calls for 309 hotel rooms and 149 underground parking spaces at 924 Howell St., at the northwest corner of Howell and Terry. Project documents say the hotel will provide “linkage” to the convention center expansion, which is planned for the south side of Howell.

The logo of Residence Inn Marriott is shown on the documents. Stonebridge, which is based in the Denver suburb of Centennial, also has a Residence Inn in Pullman near the Washington State University campus.

Weber Thompson is the architect. A design review recommendation meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. tonight in City Hall, 600 Fifth Ave.

The convention center proposes to build a five-story exhibition and meeting space between Pine and Howell streets, and Ninth and Boren avenues. The “co-development program” could add a 30-story building with 428 housing units and a 14-story building with 500,000 square feet of office space as part of the expansion.

Matt Griffin of Pine Street Group told the DJC last month that co-development sites will be permitted and sold to private developers to help pay for the expansion. Pine Street Group is development manager for the expansion.

A recent report from Downtown Seattle Association said there are more than 14,000 hotel rooms downtown today. When the report came out last month, two hotels totaling 394 rooms have opened this year. Three other projects with 623 rooms are under construction and expected to open in 2016 and 2017.

DSA says there are 17 hotel projects in early stages of development, and seven of those include some housing units. If all these hotels are built, they would add 4,166 rooms downtown.

Stonebridge has multiple Residence Inns and other hotels in Colorado as well as Alaska, California, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.
