MUP application for WSCC expansion

SEATTLE — The team planning the $1.4 billion expansion of the Washington State Convention Center has applied for a master use permit.

The permit would cover the expansion as well as a 29-story residential building and a 16-story office building.

The sites are bounded by Pine and Howell streets and Ninth Boren avenues. The latest plan calls for a 200-foot-tall, 1.4 million-square-foot expansion of the convention center with 600 to 800 parking spaces.

The new towers would be north of the expanded convention center. Filings with the city say the residential tower would be 438 units above 6,000 square feet of retail. The office tower would have about 500,000 square feet, and 11,000 square feet of retail.

Both towers will be permitted and then sold to be developed.

Pine Street Group is managing the project. LMN Architects is the designer and a Skanska-Hunt joint venture is the general contractor/construction manager. MKA is providing structural and civil engineering services.

The goal is to begin construction in the second quarter of 2017 and open the new facility in 2020.
