Expedia will start moving to Seattle a lot sooner than expected.
Martin Selig said today that the online travel company has leased 40,000 square feet in his 645 Elliott West building and will move there June 1. The site overlooks Expedia's future campus along Elliott Bay, and Selig said the lease marks the firm's initial move into Seattle.
Selig's website says the building at 645 Elliott Ave. W. is a four-story, 145,260-square-foot structure built in 2010 that is part of a two-building complex. The other building at 635 Elliott Ave. W. is leased to Amazon.com.
The Expedia lease means 645 Elliott West is full, Selig said.
Selig would not say how long Expedia's lease is, and said it has not been decided whether Expedia will stay in the space once its future campus is ready.
Expedia is planning to move its headquarters from downtown Bellevue to Amgen's former campus in 2019. Expedia could eventually have as much as 1.9 million square feet on the campus and parking for 3,300 vehicles.
Bohlin Cywinski Jackson is designing the new campus.
